They lived in many countries around the globe, including Germany, Japan, Greece and Germany. Harden attended Surrattsville High School, Clinton after which she settled in Maryland. She went on to the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 1980, and earned a bachelor's in theater during the year. Harden was admitted to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 1988, so that she could earn her MFA.
